OrthoPrax
A consumer app for daily Orthodox Christian practice: calendar, readings, audio with lock-screen controls, reminders and subscriptions.
OrthoPrax helps people keep a daily rule of prayer: a church calendar, daily readings, audio playback with lock-screen and notification controls, scheduled reminders, and in-app subscriptions.
I took the app over from its original developer and have been its lead maintainer since.
What I did
- Led the upgrade to Expo SDK 57 and React Native 0.86: migrated media controls to Android Media3, fixed edge-to-edge layout on Android, moved the splash screen configuration and removed dead plugins.
- Reworked notification scheduling so reminders arrive reliably.
- Prototyped an EPUB book reader and a home-screen widget.
- Ran a careful branch recovery: saved uncommitted work, took a verified full-history backup, and reorganised five tangled branches into a clean base with separate feature lines, then wrote down exactly what was done.
