WingOps Mobile
A risk-assessment app for flight schools. Students brief, fly with GPS tracking running in the background, then debrief and sign; instructors review everything from a full calendar.
Before every training flight, a student pilot has to assess the risks of that flight. WingOps Mobile turns that into a guided flow: the student fills in the pre-flight brief, the phone records the GPS track during the flight, and afterwards the student completes the debrief, signs it and submits. Instructors see every assessment, a calendar with agenda, day, week and month views, and the school's reservations.
The app is multi-tenant, so several flight schools run on it with their own branding and forms.
What I did
- Led development with one other developer and a designer: about 1,030 of 1,240 commits.
- Designed a schema-driven form engine. The backend describes the brief and debrief forms, and the app renders them with conditional fields, validation and risk scoring, so a school can change its forms without an app release.
- Implemented flight tracking with background location that keeps recording while the screen is off and stores the track offline until it can be uploaded.
- Wrote the calendar from scratch, keeping date and layout calculations in pure, tested functions separate from the components.
- Added QR-code onboarding for students, a performance dashboard and a logbook.
- Used iOS 26 native components (glass effect,
@expo/ui) where they fit.
